Why should you train your reading skills?

Reading techniques are not up to date
Pupils in primary school learn how to read by age-appropriate techniques. Although reading is practiced later, new techniques are not adopted. Consequently, as adults we are still reading texts word by word, we mentally repeat the content and we don not reach any reasonable reading speed.

This does not comply with our skills! From an age of 15 years we are capable of significantly more: Our viewing range is much broader and our vocabulary and basic knowledge are good enough to read better by other techniques.

The brain is able to read faster than the eyes
The human brain can process around 800 to 1000 words per minute. By means of classical techniques people are only able to read 200 words per minute. Result: The brain could read faster, but it is only used to a capacity of 25 %. The thoughts digress and the textual contents are not perceived any more.

Parallel to the reading speed also the concentration increases: The information reaches the brain much faster and the thoughts remain concentrated. That's why the reading comprehension skills remain constant or even increase despite the higher reading speed. This relation is scientifically proven.

Only training changes practiced behavior
It is rarely sufficient to avoid well-known read errors. New reading techniques need to replace the old and inefficient ones. Our training methods cause a sustainable change of the viewing processes during the reading, and they change the routines that were used for years.
